WHAT IS CBD & CBG?
CBD- CANNABIDIOL- A safe, non-addictive substance, CBD is one of more than a hundred “phytocannabinoids,” which are unique to cannabis and endow the plant with its robust therapeutic profile. CBD is not psychoactive.
Extensive scientific research – much of it sponsored by the U.S. government – and mounting anecdotal accounts from patients and physicians highlight CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of maladies, including (but not limited to):

CBG- CANNABIGEROL- CBG works to fight inflammation, pain, nausea and works to slow the proliferation of cancer cells. Research has shown it also significantly reduces intraocular eye pressure caused by glaucoma. Strains high in CBG will be beneficial treating conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, and cancer.
The way CBG interacts with our endocannabinoid system is different from CBD. CBG binds directly to both CB1 and CB2 receptors and might be more efficient at delivering its benefits into our systems. Generally speaking: CBD helps to produce and regulate endocannabinoids, while CBG works on the receptors. Another way to differentiate the two – CBG typically energizes, whilst CBD has a more calming effect. The two balance each other out when taken together.

Like humans, dogs can suffer from anxiety or stress for a multitude of reasons. I can be the dogs natural state of being or the stress/anxiety is triggered by an external environmental factor. From separation anxiety to riding in the car or a visit to the vet or groomer, and fireworks are few common factors that CBD can help calm and ease the stressfulness of the situation.
Pain Management and Joint Health
The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD are what makes it so great with managing pain for conditions associated with arthritis, injuries and joint issues, common in some breeds is hip dysplasia. CBD can help improve your dog’s mobility and enhance their comfort and quality of life.
Canine Epilepsy
CBD as been shown to be effective in reducing the number of seizures in dogs diagnosed with Canine Idiopathic Epilepsy. A study conducted by the Colorado State University and funded by the AKC Canine Health Foundation, (CHF Grant 02323: Efficacy of Cannabidiol (CBD) for the Treatment of Canine Epilepsy shows the potential for a better life for those dogs suffering from this condition.

CBD may help a dog stay relaxed, which goes along with the anti-anxiety/stress properties of CBD. A relaxed dog will help it stay focused and concentrate during training or other activities.
General Wellness
Like in Humans, CBD tries to achieve a state of balance within your dog’s body or homeostasis, through its interaction with the endocannabinoid system contributing to their overall health and well-being.
The efficacy of CBD can vary depending on the dog, dosage or underlying conditions. It is always advisable to consult with your veterinarian before starting a CBD schedule, especially if your dog has any underlying health issues or is taking medication. Studies have shown that giving a healthy dog CBD on a daily basis is safe for long term use.
CBD can add tremendously to the quality of life for your dog when it becomes part of their wellness plan. Making both of you happier and healthier.
CBD DOSAGE FOR DOGS
Start with 2-5mg of CBD for every 10 lbs of body weight.
If your dog has never been given CBD before the good news is that there are not many side effects. Studies have shown drooling and diarrhea to be the most common, however the studies were conducted using high doses outside normal daily recommended ranges. It has been determined to be safe and effective for your dog.
It is best to always start with a lower dose and work your way up, 1-2 mg per 10 lbs of body weight is a standard starting point. Don’t worry about breaking out the calculator to determine the exact dosage. Round up or down, it’s more important to figure out what dosage works best for your dog. If you start low and don’t notice any improvements after few days, slowly increase the dosage. However, starting out too high you may be wasting the product if your dog only needs half the dose for relief.
Depending on your dog’s health, higher doses can given and multiple times a day. However, for daily support a low dose once a day may be suitable. Consult with your veterinarian on a wellness plan.
